James Corcoran Obituary, DARKE COUNTY, OHIO — A fatal shooting in the early morning hours of Wednesday has claimed the life of 26-year-old James Corcoran, prompting a homicide investigation and the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the 1100 block of Russ Road near an apartment complex in Greenville. Upon arrival, officers found James Corcoran suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area remained closed for several hours as investigators processed evidence, interviewed witnesses, and documented the crime scene. During the course of the investigation, detectives located a second adult male at a nearby residence and identified him as 33-year-old Todd Black.
Authorities said Todd Black was taken into custody without incident and was later formally charged with one count of murder. He was booked into the Darke County Jail, where he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
Investigators have not released additional details about what led to the shooting, and a possible motive has not been disclosed.
