Bronx Shooting, BRONX, NEW YORK — Two men were fatally shot in the Soundview section of the Bronx in a late-night attack that has prompted an ongoing police investigation and a search for multiple suspects.
According to the New York City Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 10:00 PM on June 18 outside 1643 Westchester Avenue. Authorities say Egbert “Dread” Rutherford, 53, and Curtis Brown, 43, were playing dominoes outdoors when gunfire suddenly broke out, striking both men multiple times.
Emergency responders transported the victims to Jacobi Medical Center, where both men were later pronounced dead. The violent nature of the attack has left the local community shaken as investigators work to determine the motive behind the shooting.
Police have since released surveillance images of three individuals believed to be involved in the incident. The NYPD is urging the public to review the images and assist with identifying the suspects as part of their ongoing manhunt.
Friends and family members have described Rutherford as a hardworking and supportive member of the community who was known for his dedication and willingness to help others. Brown was also remembered by those close to him as a familiar and respected presence in the neighborhood.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities continue to gather evidence and follow leads. The investigation remains active as detectives work to track down those responsible for the deadly shooting.
