Six Killed in Mau Summit Accident, MAU SUMMIT, KENYA — At least six people have been confirmed dead following a devastating road accident at Kamara in Mau Summit along the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway on Tuesday night. The tragic crash involved a 14-seater matatu and a lorry in what authorities have described as a fatal head-on collision.
According to Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander John Kimutai, the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the lorry, which was heading toward Nakuru, reportedly swerved before colliding head-on with the matatu that was traveling from Nakuru to Eldoret with 11 passengers on board.
Police reports indicate that five people, including the matatu driver, died instantly at the scene due to the severity of the impact. Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to nearby medical facilities as authorities secured the crash site along the busy highway.
A sixth victim later succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Londiani Sub-County Hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to six. The remaining survivors are said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries, though their exact conditions were not immediately confirmed.
Officials noted that the force of the collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles, disrupting traffic flow along the Nakuru–Eldoret corridor for several hours as rescue operations and recovery efforts continued late into the night.
Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the cause of the lorry’s reported swerve and whether mechanical failure, human error, or other factors may have contributed to the fatal incident.
